WHY THIS AWARD EXISTS
Every year, we carry January's light forward.
January was a transgender Filipina woman and the Social Coordinator of Sher Pride, the first trans person to hold an executive role in the organization.
This award exists because of who was taken from us too soon.
She welcomed newcomers, connected members to support, and lit up every room she walked into. Her life wasn't easy. She faced real struggles as an immigrant, a person of colour, and a transgender woman navigating poverty.

Sher Pride turned this loss into recognition, honouring one young person whose leadership carries the same spirit our January gave so freely for the community.
January Marie Lapuz Youth Leadership Award

Given annually since 2015, the January Marie Lapuz Youth Leadership Award celebrates youth who show involvement, commitment, and leadership in the 2SLGBTQ+ community, locally, nationally, or internationally.

All winners receive a letter of congratulations and a certificate alongside their prize. Funds are meant to continue the recipient's volunteer work and community service, and winners share a short follow up report within a year of receiving their award.
